Caring Network/Care Line Workshop – June 2 and 9
EFFECTIVE LISTENING SKILLS
The next two workshops sponsored by the Caring Network will focus on developing effective listening skills. Although these workshops are intended primarily for helpers in crisis situations the skills are useful for anyone in a helping or support situation. As Bible believers we are often called upon to use listening skills as we endeavour to share one another’s burdens in life. The development of effective listening skills can facilitate greater communication and understanding of problems. This in turn helps the person facing the problem to have greater clarity and better access to support.
The basis for skill development is “The Skilled Helper” by Gerard Egan (2002). Practice sessions will follow after an introduction detailing the various skills. Skills such as tuning in, listening, processing, and sharing highlights will be taught and practised in an informal and supportive environment.
The next two workshops will be held Saturday, June 2nd and 9th, God willing, at the Guelph ecclesial hall,187 Norfolk Street,Guelph (map below), beginning at 9.30 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch. We will open with a Bible reading and prayer, and then discuss the development of effective listening skills followed by practice sessions.
